To Where and Back Again

The Season 6 finale has arrived at last. It was already released a month early in the UK but I vowed not to watch it until it came to the US. I already did watch it on a stream since I don't have Discovery Family due to my mother cutting it from my DirecTV to save money but let me say it here... it was awesome.

I love it for a couple of reasons. First being Starlight Glimmer. She was the star in a way as she had to gather friends she knew in order to stop a threat that would affect Equestria as a whole. In a way, she has grown a lot as a character and despite being a supporting character, she shows a kind of leadership that would make Twilight pretty pleased. I'll be fair. Not many people like Starlight Glimmer and how the season has most of it focused on her but let's face it, I like Glimmer and anything involving Glimmer is good. The second reason is the return of an old foe: Chrysalis. She's back and we haven't seen her since the end of Season 2, aside from an appearance in Season 5. However this time her plan is on a much bigger scale and it kind of reminds me of stuff from Snatcher as well as Marvel regarding the Skrull Invasion. I liked it but it surprises me that she detests traitors and it's sad that she got beat in a very unexpected way. What made it better was that she didn't reform. I'm happy that the writers decided not to reform her because we know it won't be the last we'll see of her.

Speaking of which, I liked the chemistry that Starlight had with her allies: Thorax, Trixie and Discord. Yeah, those three and they were funny. Trixie and Discord were hilarious together and Thorax really shined. Sure the ending was a bit underwhelming but seeing how the Changelings evolve was kind of cool. I thought Pokemon with it but what the hey, build trust and then they evolve. Thorax looked awesome. I'm also surprised that Starlight and her team ending up saving the day instead of the Mane 6. That's a nice change of pace though I wish the ending could have been better. At least it's better than the Season 5 finale and that's all I'll say about it. Other than that, I loved the finale.

There were other flaws and to be fair, I rather see Starlight team up with her old friends to save the day. That would be grand and can provide closure but hey, you get what you got.

How do I rate it? Well... I give To Where and Back Again an 8.5 out of 10. A big improvement from last season's finale and though it had flaws, it was very enjoyable. Nice seeing someone other than the Mane 6 save the day and it was also good to see Chrysalis again. Knowing that she isn't reformed proves that we won't be seeing the last of her and I hope Season 7 will be just as grand.

What now? Well... guess my work is done. See you next year in 2017 as it'll be a big year for MLP.
